An affordable custom website starts with a scope that fits your business and budget. I am Dicky Ibrohim. As a web engineer and technical lead, I help you plan a landing page or company profile website around clear priorities, then build it under an agreed proposal.

For a small business, the most useful starting point is often the information a prospective customer needs and the action you want them to take. A package with the longest feature list may not answer those needs. We can identify what belongs in the first version, what could come later, and the costs of keeping the site in use.

Choose the website around its purpose

A landing page may be sufficient when you have one main offer. It explains the service, addresses relevant concerns, and directs the visitor towards contact or another intended action. My landing page design service covers that requirement in more detail.

A company profile website is useful when prospective clients need to understand the business and several services before requesting a quotation. Separate pages can give those services enough room for a clear explanation. See my company profile website service for that broader requirement.

Consider a catering business that takes orders through a conversation. Its website might need to explain menu types, service areas, minimum order quantities, and how to request a quote. If staff still confirm availability manually, the first version may not need customer accounts or online payment. This is an illustration of scope planning; the right choice depends on how your business operates.

If prices must be calculated automatically or stock must change when an order is placed, raise that at the start. Leaving out an essential function merely to reduce the quoted price can produce a site that does not support everyday work.

A custom website helps you choose the right priorities

My work focuses on custom website development: page structure and functionality are discussed around your requirements. This does not have to mean a large system. In the catering example, we can separate daily meal offers from event requirements if both are available, then route enquiries through WhatsApp or email. You choose the information to explain without immediately paying to develop a transaction system.

If the way your business presents its offer changes, we can discuss visual identity, service structure, or another language using that foundation. I help assess what needs changing and which work can be planned in stages. Further development depends on technical feasibility, time, and cost; a custom website does not include every future change for free.

A SaaS website builder, whose application is operated by its provider, may be sufficient when its facilities and terms fit. Check page and media limits, editing accounts, integrations, content policies, and feature changes. For example, withdrawal of a menu-grouping feature could affect how the catering offer is presented. With me, structure and function priorities are discussed directly around the business's work and budget, rather than assuming custom development is always better.

Some platforms also support your own domain. My service distinguishes domains, content rights, editing accounts, licences, and source code; code is not included by default, may carry a separate fee, and is not always available. Assess the value of adaptations alongside access and handover terms. The following decisions help clarify the scope you will compare.

Early decisionWhat it affects
One offer or several servicesThe information structure and need for different pages
Finished content or material still to prepareCopy, photography, and the approval process
Occasional changes or frequent updatesWhether developer updates or editing facilities suit the work
One language or severalWriting, review, and the work of keeping versions aligned
Direct enquiries or automated transactionsThe difference between an information site and a broader operational system

These decisions give you a basis for comparing proposals against the work you need. I do not offer one price for every requirement or claim to be the cheapest provider. Assess the proposal through its deliverables and the responsibility of maintaining what is built.

An engineer assesses AI output against the work you need

You communicate with me directly about requirements, technical choices, and progress. My background as a web engineer and technical lead helps me assess how a requested feature relates to the user's task and the work involved. My profile page provides more about my background.

For example, “I want to edit the website” needs a little more definition. Does that mean changing a contact number, adding products, or altering the whole design? Each calls for different facilities and upkeep. Discussing those differences helps you make decisions without needing to understand programming.

I use AI to assist development, with review and testing suited to the project. AI can produce incorrect information or code suggestions with security weaknesses, as described in OWASP's guidance on AI misinformation. A polished-looking result still needs checking against the intended use.

For the catering example, testing could follow a customer's task: find a suitable menu, understand the ordering conditions, and open the correct contact route. If a form is included, check its confirmation message and how an unsuccessful request is identified. A design becomes useful when that journey works.

Inputs to AI tools also need selection according to need, permissions, and tool terms. Public menu descriptions differ from customer lists, supplier pricing, or private conversations. OWASP discusses sensitive information disclosure risks; development examples do not require all your business data. AI assistance during development also does not automatically create an AI feature or API charges when the site is visited.

Building with AI yourself may suit simple requirements and an owner prepared to assess and maintain the result. My service is relevant when you need adaptations, direct technical discussion, and agreed checks. That assessment connects business requirements to a usable result without promising to eliminate every error.

Plan design and technical foundations together

My projects usually include initial SEO, security, and performance work as described in the proposal. This allows design and technical requirements to be considered during the build. Regular content production, SEO campaigns, monitoring, and additional features need to be distinguished from that initial work.

The intended benefit for visitors is straightforward: readable text on a phone, recognisable controls, and information they can find. W3C's design guidance covers contrast, navigation, form labels, and layouts for different screen sizes. Those considerations need checking on the actual pages; citing the guidance is not accessibility certification.

For SEO, clear titles, relevant links, and search access help establish a site that can be understood. Google's SEO Starter Guide also explains that following SEO practices does not automatically produce a first-place ranking. Technical work does not replace accurate, useful business information.

SEO principles remain relevant to Google's generative AI search features. I can discuss work that helps make the site readable by search systems, but cannot promise indexing, a particular position, or recommendations from AI assistants. Search results are not wholly within a website developer's control.

Include the costs that continue after launch

The build price is only part of the budget. When requesting a proposal, separate development, services that need renewing, and additional work when requirements change. This helps you assess whether the original choice will still suit the business in the following year.

Use a simple calculation: total cost over your chosen period = build cost + all recurring charges during that period + agreed additional work.

Include only the services actually used, such as a domain, hosting or server, storage, business email, editing facilities, licences, and third-party tools. Check renewal rates, usage limits, extra features, and exit costs if you move, as well as any introductory offer. Rate changes, including increases, follow applicable terms and notice arrangements.

Compare freelancers, agencies, and platforms through equivalent work and periods. A low price does not automatically mean poor quality, just as a high price does not explain what is included. Clarify the content work, revisions, checks, rights, access, and support being priced so the quoted figure has meaning for your requirements.

A straightforward information site may use a lighter setup than a transaction application. That does not mean every project has free hosting or only domain renewal to pay. Costs depend on the selected system and providers. Follow-up support, content changes, and new functions also need clear terms where required.

If your budget is limited, share that early. We can assess whether the available scope fits, should be reduced, or would work better in stages. I will discuss a proposal around those requirements; the schedule and payment arrangements follow the project agreement.

Match access and handover to your requirements

Before deciding, discuss who will manage the domain, hosting, content, and service accounts. Record the access and deliverables you will receive. Being able to edit text through a panel is different from being able to change the whole website with another developer.

Source-code handover is not automatically included and may not be available. If your company requires it, raise that before choosing the service arrangement. Availability, licensing, separate fees, and permitted use need agreement.

Custom websites can also depend on third-party services. If a service is disrupted, discontinued, or its provider closes, you need to know what material, access, and backups remain available. GOV.UK's technical lock-in guidance discusses service benefits alongside migration options. Exported text and photographs do not always produce a complete website ready to run elsewhere.

A move needs assessment of rights, file formats, access, backups, destination compatibility, licences, and migration costs and work. This also applies to my service. The discussion helps you choose through actual capabilities, without promises of provider independence or unrestricted moves to every host.

Decide which data and analytics are needed

A profile website does not automatically need a customer database. Published service information differs from visitor statistics, prospects' messages, technical logs, and administrator access. Analytics options can be discussed if you want to understand website use; setup and account management follow the proposal scope.

For the catering example, a contact click may indicate how a page is used, but does not establish that an order took place. We need to distinguish that measurement question from storing customer histories. Discuss usage purposes, recipients, retention periods, and export options before selecting a service.

Provider access depends on architecture, permissions, settings, and policies; technical access does not automatically grant rights to use data for other purposes. Custom websites using third-party hosting or analytics still send relevant data to those services. Clarity about data and accounts belongs in the management discussion, rather than a promise that every process stays solely in the business owner's hands.

Plan for maintenance and later assistance

My experience handling website malware and faults informs discussions about risks and remedies. Security work during development does not remove every possibility of a problem. OWASP describes the risk of vulnerable or outdated components; the components a website uses still need attention throughout its use.

Website development clients may receive special pricing for relevant follow-up work. The type of assistance, eligibility, price, and scope are established before that work starts. Support is not automatically free or available around the clock.

If a proposal includes a malware cleanup guarantee, its boundaries follow the written terms for that work. It does not mean the site is immune to reinfection or that every business loss is covered. Updates, access management, and maintenance remain dependent on the system, including when a new vulnerability is discovered.

Start with the business need that matters most

Prepare a short description of the business, its main offer, intended customers, and the action you want visitors to take. Include your current website if there is one, the material already available, and the parts you want to update yourself. Use photos, logos, and portfolio material with clear publication rights; hold back material whose permissions are unresolved.

Once the requirements are discussed, the work can move through a proposal, design and content, development, preview checks, then launch and agreed handover. Identify any copywriting, translation, photography, and management needs so they are not assumed to be included. Before launch, try the important tasks on a phone and laptop, then agree how any outstanding issues will be handled.

Discuss your website requirements and budget. Explain its main purpose and the material you already have. That gives me a useful basis for assessing a practical development option for your business.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an affordable custom website cost?

The price follows the pages, functions, content, languages, and management requirements. Use the contact form to describe your needs and budget. The proposal should identify the build cost, recurring charges, and additional work; there is no single rate for every project.

Is one page enough for a small business?

It can be, if the information and intended visitor action can be explained well on one page. If several services need different explanations or transactions are involved, the page structure and system requirements need further assessment.

Can I update the content myself?

Editing facilities can be discussed if needed and are not automatically included. Define the editable sections and who will manage them. For occasional changes, developer assistance may be an alternative under a separate scope and price.

Is support after launch free?

Support is not assumed to be free. Its type, period, cost, and boundaries follow the written proposal. Website development clients may receive special pricing for relevant follow-up work, subject to eligibility and the scope of the case.

Will all code and access be handed over?

Handover distinguishes the domain, hosting, content, files, and source code. Source code is not automatically included, may carry a separate fee, and may not be available. Access, licensing, and migration options need to be agreed before work starts.

What if I do not have copy or photographs yet?

Explain which material is available and what is missing. Copywriting, photography, and translation can be discussed as separate requirements. Business material still needs approval from its owner and appropriate usage rights.
